After disputing with wife, food vendor takes kid's life, attempts suicide in Ilam

KATHMANDU: An Indian food vendor allegedly took life of one of his daughters and left another unconscious by strangulating before attempting to commit suicide in a lodge in Ilam district of eastern Nepal.

Police said the 31-year-old Raju Chaudhary, who runs a food stall in Ilam-7, had squabbled with his 27-year-old wife before strangulating his daughters, aged four and eight, and hanging himself to a noose in a bid to commit suicide on Friday night.

Chaudhary had reportedly left his residence along with the kids and checked in to the Friend Hotel following a dispute with his wife.

Alarmed by the violent sound that they heard as Chaudhary fell after the noose tied to the ceiling snapped, the lodge operators went to take stock of the room, and subsequently informed police about the deadly incident.

When police reached the scene, they found eight-year-old Birusha dead while four-year-old Meera was lying unconscious. Chaudhary, who was injured after the fall, was found lying incapacitated in the room.

Ilam District Police said Meera is currently receiving treatment at Birtamod-based Birta City Hospital, while Chaudhary taken in police custoday and sent to Ilam District Hospital for treatment.
