Inedible lentil found in WFP godown
NEPALGUNJ: The World Food Programme has once again run into controversy after sub-standard lentil was found in its godown in Khajura of Banke.
During an inspection, a parliamentary team found inedible lentils stocked in the WFP godown.
Lawmaker Sanjay Gautam said 514 metric tonnes of lentil in the WFP godown were sub-standard and inedible. The lentil was rotten and full of insects, according to lawmaker Gautam.
Gautam added that the lentil was imported from abroad and was of low quality.
Lentil, which was found substandard, rice and floor stocked in the WFP godown are meant for distributing among people during the time of crisis.
Gautam said that his team had come to inspect Khajura godown after the rice distributed to quake victims at Laprak, Gorkha was found rotten. The parliamentary team comprises experts too.
When asked about the rotten lentil, WFP staffers said they were preparing to ‘send the sub-standard food item to the country from where it was imported’.
