Infrastructure being built along Narchyang route

Babiyachaur, December 14

Infrastructure building has accelerated along the Narchyang trekking route to the Annapurna Base Camp that boasts of the 8,091 metres Annapurna I.

Construction of a suspension bridge has been over along the Nilgiri River that connects to the base camp, while initiatives have started to set up suspension bridges at two other places, said Tej Gurung, chairman of Narchyang Village Conservation and Tourism Conservation Committee.

The 37 metres long bridge was built with financial help from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project and local people’s labour donation. The project cost Rs 1 million.

Likewise, the trekking route was upgraded, and temporary huts meant for trekkers were erected along the way on the initiative of the authorities concerned and the local people.

The route that runs along the banks of the Nilgiri River was constructed in 2015 at a cost of Rs 4 million provided by the Department of Tourism.

As a result of infrastructure building along the route, trekkers and mountaineers have benefited in various ways ranging from relieving them of reaching their destinations through a costly helicopter service for want of an alternative route.

Besides, the route is the shortest way to reach the base camp which would save trekker’s time, said Gurung.
