Insufficient teachers hit Lamjung secondary students

LAMJUNG: Appointments of more than necessary teachers at primary schools has led to the lack of the teachers at lower secondary and secondary schools of the district.

The main reason behind crisis of the teachers at lower secondary and secondary levels is the provision that a teacher has to resign from primary level to work for lower secondary and secondary schools, said District Education Officer Surendra Raj Parajuli.

There are 245 primary schools in function with 1,291 teachers in Lamjung.

Baburam Baral, Section Officer at the District Education Office (DEO), Lamjung said  that there are 200 more teachers than the need at the primary level while 85 teachers are appointed from the relief quota.

According to the DEO, there are 31 lower secondary schools, which employ 157 teachers. Similarly, in 56 secondary level schools, only 197 teachers are working.

Consequently, the secondary level students are facing various problems by absence of subject teachers.

Mostly, teachers of science, mathematics and English subjects are fewer at the lower secondary and secondary levels, according to the DEO.
