Inundation displaces hundreds of families in Dhangadhi and around

DHANGADHI: Incessant rainfall and subsequent floods have inundated dozens of settlements in Dhangadhi Municipality and many other VDCs in Kailali district.

Hundreds of families were displaced by the floods.

Shivanagar, Bhansar Road and Bishalnagar area of Dhangadhi Municipality, Geta of Attariya municipality and  Sri Lanka Kamlari camp are overwhelmed  by the floods.

According to the District Disaster Rescue Committee (DDRC), Manuwa, Janakinagar, Thapapur, Dhansinghpur, Narayanpur, Patharaiya, Pahalmanpur villages and dozens of human settlements in Tikapur Municipality are also waterlogged.

Chief District Officer as well as DDRC Coordinator Ram Kumar Shrestha informed the Committee is yet to collect the exact number of displaced families.

Displaced ones are taking shelters in public houses, government buildings and community forest buildings.

Phulabari, Hasuliya and Basauti VDCs among others in south-western part of the district are inundated because of a newly-constructed postal road near the Indo-Nepal border, claimed locals.

Lack of proper management of drainage system is also the cause behind the inundation, they added.

A sudden gush of floods in market areas of Dhangadhi Municipality has destroyed the properties worth millions of rupees.

The floods have swept away many hectares of cultivated land in the district.
