Jhapa reports 13 deaths by floods, relief materials distributed

BHADRAPUR: As many as 13 people have been confirmed dead in the recent floods caused by monsoon rains in Jhapa district while two have gone missing.

According to the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) Jhapa Chapter, 2,524 households have been affected by the disaster while 521 houses have been completely destroyed and 2,444 families have been displaced.

Security personnel have rescued 2,200 people of 440 families to safer places such as schools and community buildings.

The Chapter reached out to 1,850 survivor families hit by the disaster with basic relief assistance materials such as tent, blanket, utensils, and mats.

Likewise various organisations including Sahara Nepal, Korean Nepali Society and Rotary Club and in cooperation of the NRCS distributed food stuffs — rice, grams, sugar, salt, edible oil and beaten rice — to 1,760 affected families in the district, the NRCS branch said.
