Kailali police launch anti-marijuana drive

DHANGADHI: Police in Kailali district have started a campaign to destroy marijauna in the district with an aim to stop drug abuse in Dhangadhi Bazaar and its surrounding.

Educational institutions, social organisations and locals with the leadership of the Ward Police Post have started the campaign after they found that marijuana plants were increasing in the district.

According to Manohar Prasad Bhatta, In-charge of Ward Police Office, they have destroyed the weed around the Mohana River and Rajghat area.

The campaign that started on June 25 will continue until all the marijuana plants are destroyed in the area.

More than 200 people, including students from Trinagar Higher Secondary School and Siddhartha Sisu Sadan of Dhangadi and security personnel, destroyed the marijuana from LL Chok, one of the busiest hubs of Dhangadhi city on Saturday.

Likewise, weeds in Bishalnagar, Chatakpur and Shantinagar were also destroyed, informed Bhatta.

Prakash Bam, Secretary of Nepali Congress, Kailali district chapter, informed that the campaign is positive and his party is also supporting it.

After finding increase in use of corex, marijuana and hashish among school children and youths, police have also started awareness programmes regarding the issue.
