Khudi bailey bridge along Besisahar-Chame road section closed

LAMJUNG: The vehicular movement across the dilapidated bailey bridge over Khudi River in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-3 of Lamjung district has been banned.

The local residents pressurised to close the movement along the bridge after it was damaged on Sunday.

The vehicles as well as pedestrians were facing problems crossing the bridge after a part of foil integrated in the bridge bed became loose as nut-bolts slipped away. The closure of the bridge became necessary after it appeared prone to accident, local Birendra Bhandari said.

Locals have also complained that prior to the closure of the bridge, children often got their feet stuck in the gap and sustained injuries.

Nepal Army built the bailey bridge during the construction of Besisahar-Chame road five years ago.

Locals said the movement of loaded vehicles across the bridge over its capacity of 19 tonne, caused the damage. Though the local residents have urged the Road Division Office to repair the bridge, it has turned a deaf ear, locals lamented.

The vehicles en route from Marsyangdi Rural Municipality of Lamjung to Manang have to cross the bailey bridge.
