Lack of doctors affects health service delivery

Dadeldhura, September 13

Service seekers have been deprived of health services due to the absence of doctors and others staffers in the Sub-regional Hospital, Dadeldhura.

The delivery of health services has been affected as the authority concerned has yet to manage doctors and other staffers in the hospital.

The sub-regional hospital was established three years ago targeting patients of hilly districts at Amargadi Municipality in Dadeldhura. Scores of patients from Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura, Doti and Accham districts visit the hospital for treatment every day.

However, the patients are compelled to return without receiving treatment due to lack of doctors in the health facility. The authority concerned has yet to manage doctors and other staffers in the hospital.

Tek Bahadur Khadka, a local, said patients were compelled to visit health facilities of the Tarai, Kathmandu and India despite the presence of the sub-regional hospital, which has modern infrastructure and equipment. “However, the hospital has not been able to manage doctors,” he added.

Khadka said modern equipment as seen in city hospitals were installed. “But, those equipment are gathering dust for want of expert technicians to operate them.”

There are 37 quotas, including 18 experts, in the sub-regional hospital.

Acting Medical Superintendent Nawaraj Joshi of the hospital said only seven doctors were there in the hospital. He added he had informed the authority concerned about the situation time and again, but in vain.
