Lamjung witnesses rise in cottage industries

Lamjung district in Gandaki Province has witnessed a steady increase in the number of cottage and small industries for the past few years.

According to Lamjung Small and Cottage Development Committee Office, there has been an increase in registration of firms working in sectors such as agriculture, beauty parlour, tourism, bakery, knitting, cardamom and bee-keeping in the district, of late. As many as 493 small and cottage industries were registered in the district in fiscal 2018-19. Data showed that 263 industries were registered in fiscal 2017-18, 157 in 2016-17 and 185 in 2015-16.

Chief at the office Mani Ram Nepal said as many as 3,018 small and cottage industries were registered in the district till date. Besides, as many as 419 commercial enterprises were registered in fiscal 2018-19, 208 in 2017-18, 210 in 2016-17 and 256 in 2015-16. With increasing trend in the number of industries, Lamjung has received investment of around Rs 460 million.

Lamjung Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Rajesh Thapa said with growing number of industries, the district was churning out various types of commodities.
