Landslide kills three persons of same family in Baglung

POKHARA: Three members of a family died on the spot when their house was swept away by a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Lurung of Bareng Rural Municipality-1, Baglung on Tuesday at 1:45 am.

The deceased have been identified as Bishnu Bahadur Chhetri (40), his wife Bishnu Maya Chhetri (35) and their daughter Soniya Chhetri (3 months), according to Netra Ale, Sub-Inspector at Baglung’s District Police Office.

It has been learnt that a cowshed near the house has also been swept away. Barendanda Police Post, along with Baglung’s District Police Team, carried out rescue work by recovering the bodies and helping clear the debris, informed Ale.

The landslide also caused minor damages to another house nearby with no human casualties.

Rain throughout the night yesterday triggered flash floods and mudslides at many places in the district causing damage to infrastructures.

A landslide that occurred at Hugdishir has caused damage to Bahrakot Primary School at Bareng Rural Municipality. The expanded Hugdi Khola has eroded large tracts of cultivated fields, said Prakash Chhantyal, a local.

Meanwhile, the Baglung section of the Mid-hills highway has become obstructed due to deposition of mudslide debris at various points following the heavy rain last night.
