Landslides obstruct Waling-Huwas road in Parbat

PHALEBAS: The Waling-Huwas road that links over a dozen VDCs of Parbat district has been obstructed by mudslides triggered by incessant rains since Thursday night.

The landslips at several places have obstructed the under construction road at Dumre Bhanjyang bordering Kalikakot of Syangja district.

Consequently, the locals are facing difficulties for want of transportation.

The Pokhara-Baglung Highway that was obstructed since Thursday night, following soil erosion was opened at 9 am on Friday morning. However, the road was opened only for one-way traffic.

Similarly, residents of Setibeni on the border of Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi districts are at high risk of being swept away by the swollen Kali Gandaki River. Water level in the river has risen significantly due to torrential rains since Thursday.

"The river flow is only two feet away to hit the local bazaar. Now for immediate remedy for the risk, locals are asked to prepare to move to safety. The bazaar is at risk of inundation anytime if rains do not relent soon," said chief of local police beat, Chandra Neupane.
