Mahat flays blockade

Bhojpur, November 28

Nepali Congress leader Ram Sharan Mahat today criticised the unofficial blockade of the country by India, which he said was imposed to support the Madhes agitation.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union, Morang in Biratnagar today, Mahat said, raising the issue of blockade in international forums alone would not resolve the crisis.

“It is essential to let the international community know about the injustice we’re facing, but the crisis can’t be resolved until we use our diplomatic channels simultaneously,” he argued.

Also dwelling on the hardships faced by the residents of the Tarai, the former finance minister urged concerned stakeholders to take initiatives to solve the crisis through dialogue.

Mahat also said that the federal boundaries should be drawn to reflect people’s aspirations. “Since provinces are to be formed to empower the people living there, federal boundaries should be drawn by taking into account feelings of the general public,” he said.
