Market monitoring team's crackdown on Pokhara black marketeers

POKHARA: The Kaski District Market Monitoring Committee on Tuesday has found underweight cement sacks and date-expired paints being sold in Pokhara.

Acting on a tip-off, the Committee had mobilised a team to carry out an inspection at various hardware shops.

The team upon inspection found out that some of the cement sacks weighed less than three kg than the marked weight.

Ramesh Shrestha, an officer at the District Administration Office, said the Committee prohibited the sale of more than 1,000 cement sacks from Jaya Shiva Shankar Hardware after discovering them being underweight.

Meanwhile, they seized jars of paints which crossed the expiry dates and destroyed them today itself, informed Shrestha.

Kapil Nath Koirala, Chairman of the Kaski Consumers Forum, said the inspection would be intensified as the consumers had been deprived of quality products.

He hoped that the authorities would book the culprits under the Consumers Protection Act 1998.

Meanwhile, the concerned shop operates have been summoned at the DAO for further action.
