Memorial dedicated to blast victims

Bharatpur, June 5:

A memorial dedicated to people, who lost their lives in a blast at Badarmudhe near Madi VDC of Chitwan district three years ago, was unveiled today.

It was inaugurated by Nam Prasad Subedi, who lost six members of his family in the explosion.

The memorial was built at a cost of Rs 4 lakh. Nepal Army’s Purano Gorakh battalion contributed Rs 2.50 lakh, while the rest was donated by locals, said Badarmudhe affected persons’ committee vice-president Krishna Adhikari.

Some 38 persons lost their lives when a mine laid by the Maoists went off three years ago.

Around 73 persons were injured in the incident. Twelve of the injured are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Most of the injured have complained that they are yet to get

the promised financial aid for treatment.

Many of the injured said though Maoist chairman Prachanda had personally assured them of financial aid, nothing had come their way.

The inscription on the memorial bears the names of all those killed in the blast and also of those who were injured.
