RUPANDEHI: A minor was raped in Rupandehi district following which she is currently receiving treatment in Kathmandu.

A resident of Kotihawa in Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi, the child whose age is not disclosed, was raped on Thursday, January 14.

According to District Police Office, Rupandehi, a 28-year-old male from Banganga Municipality of Kapilvastu district has been arrested for the crime. The arrestee worked as a labourer in Tilottama of Rupandehi district. Police said, the person committed the crime in an inebriated state on the day of Maghi or Maghe Sankranti.

He is presently in judicial custody at Rupandehi DPO.

When the girl did not return home till late, her kin along with police had begun a search following which she was discovered near a field close to her home. The accused was arrested from near the incident site as well.

Meanwhile, the child is receiving treatment at Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. Her condition has been improving, according to police.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
