The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted rainfall with the weather remaining mostly cloudy throughout the country till Monday. There are also chances of heavy rainfall in a few places in the eastern and central regions of the country.

Mostly the eastern areas are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while heavy rains have been forecast in a few parts of the western region. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some places, according to MFD.

The MFD stated that rainfall was likely in a single pocket area rather than more areas. Rainfall is likely to occur in Kaski in the western region and in eastern Tarai region.

The division has also predicted rainfall during Dashain. As the monsoon has extended this year, rainfall is likely to last till mid-October, said Ganga Nagarkoti, a meteorologist.

According to MFD, the axis of the monsoon trough has shifted from its normal position. The western part of the monsoon trough is near its normal position, but the eastern part of the monsoon trough has shifted to the northern side. The monsoon trough is currently in areas above Gujarat, and the Arabian Sea. There is also another monsoon in Uttar Pradesh of India.

The positioning of the monsoon trough brings rains, Nagarkoti added.

The moisture-laden wind that entered Nepal from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea caused rainfall. Also, clouds are forming because of rainfall and wind, said Nagarkoti.

This year, the monsoon entered the country 10 days late. Monsoon usually enters Nepal on June 10 and withdraws on September 23. The monsoon is likely to end by mid-October this year, according to MFD.

As the monsoon has extended this year, Dashain festival too is likely to be marked by rainy days.

According to Flood Forecasting Division, water level is expected to rise in the Kankai, Kamala and Bagmati rivers and their tributaries. There are also chances of flash floods in rivers flowing through Province 1 and 2 in the Tarai and Chure regions. Moderate to heavy rainfall will occur in Bara, Parsa, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Udaypur, Rautahat,

Sarlahi, Mahottari, Dhanusha and Siraha districts in the eastern region. There is high chance of heavy rainfall in eastern areas. There are also chances of landslides occurring in the hilly areas of provinces 1 and 3.
