Moving bus gets stuck in nascent sinkhole on Pokhara road

POKHARA: A bus was pulled out from a sinkhole that suddenly opened up on the Chamere Gufa-Lamachaur road in Pokhara in western Nepal.

The moving bus, without passengers on board, was stuck after the road abruptly started caving in and the sinkhole formed at Batulechaur.

Driver and conductor were unharmed. The bus was withdrawn from the sinkhole using a crane, according to Amrit Timilsina, secretary at the Pokhara Bus Entrepreneurs Committee.

The bus (Ga 1 Kha 7033) was heading to Lamachaur from Chamere Gufa.

Leakage of drinking water from pipeline under the road might have created the sinkhole in the area, according to Dineshwar Prasad Yadav, a technician at the Nepal Drinking Water Corporation, Pokhara.
