NA aims to improve relations with public

The Nepali Army is holding First Divisional Fun and People-Military Solidarity Programme in Itahari-based Eastern Divisional Headquarters with the aim of improving relations with the public.

On the first day of the two-day programme, locals, including women and children, participated in the half marathon at 8:00am today. Other events held on the occasion included a 10-km marathon, cycling and five-kilometre walkathon for children. The Nepali Army had also put on display old and new firearms for public viewing.

This is the first such programme organised by the Nepali Army in Province 1. Programme coordinator Diwas Pokhrel said they

had organised the programme to improve understanding between the Nepali Army personnel and the general public.

Divisional chief Sameer Shahi inaugurated the programme. The Nepali Army said as many as 3,000 people participated in the programme on the first day. Photos of the Nepali Army will be put on display for public viewing tomorrow.
