Sindhulimadi, June 23

Group settlement construction launched by Nepali Army personnel for earthquake victims of last year is under way in different places of Sindhuli.

Chandidal Battalion of NA is constructing six houses for quake victims in Dhungrebas of Kamalamai Municipality, Baleni of Baseshwor VDC and Bagaicha of Bitijor VDC, in the district.

Battalion Chief Surya Bahadur Adhikari said the houses would have a toilet, bathroom, kitchen as well as solar lights. Each house can accommodate as many as eight family members, he said.

He added that NA plans to construct group housing for 48 families in the areas. He said the houses with steel body frames would be earthquake resistant.

As many as 300 NA soldiers have been deployed for construction of houses. Adhikari said the construction work had started on June 2 and the houses would be handed over to the District Disaster Rescue Committee before June 24.

He said around Rs 10 million would be spent on construction in the areas. The group settlements are expected to relieve quake victims of monsoon woes.

A victim, Dhruba Acchami of Baseshwor VDC, said the quake-affected people who were waiting for government relief had received much help from the NA’s tremendous works. NA soldiers have constructed three school buildings and 2,355 temporary houses for victims after the disaster in the district.
