NHRC seeks effective relief, rescue work

The National Human Rights Commission today wrote a letter to the government urging it to carry out relief and rescue operations more effectively.

The NHRC wrote letters to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health requesting them to carry out relief and rescue operations more effectively in theĀ  flood-affected areas, according to a press release issued by the rights body. It urged the government to mobilise Central Disaster Management Committee and District Management Committee to effectively carry out relief and rescue operations and to mitigate the risk of disaster.

The rights body also said flood victims in some areas of Morang, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa had not yet got relief materials, including food and tarpaulin. It said that it was monitoring relief and rescue efforts in flood affected districts, including efforts to rehabilitate flood victims and provide medicines to the needy people in the face of the terrible natural disaster.
