NRA, local govt to strengthen reconstruction

Bhojpur/Okhaldhunga, December 13

National Reconstruction Authority has reached agreement with the local governments of Bhojpur and Okhladhunga districts to make reconstruction work more effective in the respective local levels of the districts.

Reconstruction works have been handed over to the local levels of the respective districts to ensure coordination. The reconstruction authority had found it hard to coordinate with the local government though it had been working even before the latter was formed. Earlier, the authority had accused the representatives of local government of not heeding it and had not helped the authority openly.

A ten point agreement was reached between the authority and the local levels of Bhojpur. According to the agreement letter, consent would be taken from the local level to transfer manpower deployed for reconstruction; the district-based unit would release the salary of staffers on the basis of the recommendation from the respective municipality, rural municipality chiefs, ward chairs and administrative officer, among others.

Similarly, the authority and the local level of Okhaldhunga have reached an eleven-point agreement.

According to Reconstruction Authority District Project Implementation Unit Grant Management and Local Infrastructure Office Information Officer Sunita Adhikari, the local level will manage staffers deployed by the authority, implement the work procedure and submit data and documents, among others.
