NC MPs tell LBRC to seek suggestions from districts

Kathmandu, December 9

Lawmakers representing the Nepali Congress from Province 2 today criticised the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission’s move to invite lawmakers and other stakeholders at its office to offer suggestions.

Issuing a press statement, 27 NC lawmakers from the province demanded interaction with stakeholders of respective districts, instead of holding discussion at the LBRC’s central office.

“We are ready to go to our respective districts,” read the statement. NC lawmakers have also demanded formation of local bodies on the basis of population.

The LBRC, which is mandated to determine the number and boundaries of local bodies, had invited lawmakers, political leaders and members of technical committee of Province 2 to its central office to finalise the reports.

Due to the obstruction by the agitating Madhesi parties, the constitutional body has not been able to prepare even the preliminary report on Province 2.

“We would like to make it clear that unscientific division of village bodies and municipalities would not be acceptable to us,” read the statement.

The lawmakers have also demanded that environment be created for the Madhesi Parties to participate in local election.

Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Prem Kishor Prashad Shah, Pramila Devi Das, Teju Lal Chaudhary, Lal Babu Singh, Kiran Yadav, Abdul Razzaq, Mahendra Yadav, Min Bahadur Bishokarma and Sangita , among other NC lawmakers, had signed the statement.
