KATHMANDU:  The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police was awarded with the Clark R Bavin Wildlife Law Enforcement Award 2016 for its contribution in stopping poaching of rhinos and illegal hunting of other faunas.

On behalf of the CIB, its Director, DIG Nawa Raj Silwal accepted the award, saying, "This is a reward for our hard work and a respect to all the Nepalis. Along with us, the credit also goes to the international agencies that worked with us to stop the crimes."

The CIB bagged the award for the first time since 1997, when the award was established.

The award was presented by the Washington-based Animal Welfare Institute amid the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in Johannesburg of South Africa, on October 3.

The award lauded CIB's contribution to stop the poaching since 2010, according to Nepal Police.

Nepal recently marked the second 'Zero Rhino Poaching Year', as informed by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

The award is named after Clark R Bavin for the contributions he made while working at the Division of Law Enforcement of the United States Fish and Wildlife Services.
