Nepal waiting for Afghan confirmation, flight route permission for Kabul attack victims' repatriation

KATHMANDU: Nepal is waiting for the confirmation of completion of forensic procedure from the Afghanistan government and the flight route permission from India, Pakistan and Afghanistan before flying a chartered aircraft to Kabul to bring the bodies of 12 Nepalis killed in the June 20 Kabul suicide attack to Nepal, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

A chartered aircraft of Nepal Airlines aircraft and a team of 10 Nepali officials are on a standby to fly to Kabul for the repatriation of the Kabul bomb attack victims, MoFA Spokesperson Bharat Raj Paudyal said in press conference this afternoon.

Earlier, the government officials had said the Nepal Airlines aircraft would fly to Kabul this evening and the bodies would be brought to Kathmandu by tomorrow.

It has been learned that 10 people, including representatives from MoFA, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Foreign Employment Promotion Board, and a Nepal Army medical team, are all set to go to Kabul.

Paudyal said the Government of Nepal was ready to evacuate other Nepalis working in Afghanistan if they wanted to return home on the aircraft that was going to Kabul.

Two injured evacuated to New Delhi

Meanwhile, it has been learned that two of the seven injured were airlifted to New Delhi for treatment today, while three others would be taken to the Indian capital tomorrow.

Those who were admitted to the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi today are identified as Krishna Kumar Deuja and Man Bahadur Thapa of Chitwan.

Chyangba Tamang of Nuwakot is in a very critical condition and it would be decided tomorrow whether he could be airlifted, according to a MoFA official.

Among the injured Amrit Rokaya Chhetri is said to have sustained non-serious injuries. Three others who would beĀ evacuated to New Delhi tomorrow are Prem Bahadur Tamang of Morang, Chet Bahadur Sherchan of Myagdi, Kumar Bahadur Gurung of Gorkha.
