CWC members offer 4 alternatives to Nepali Congress over Karki impeachment

KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee members who spoke at today's meeting of the Nepali Congress CWC offered four alternatives to the party over the impeachment motion filed at the Parliament against the chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Lok Man Singh Karki.

As many as 21 CWC members aired their views over the impeachment motion that was registered last Wednesday with 157 lawmakers -- 50 from the ruling CPN Maoist Centre and 107 from the main opposition CPN-UML -- as signatories.

Today, the CWC members asked the Nepali Congress leadership to make a wise decision considering four alternatives -- supporting the impeachment motion, opposing it, seeking Karki's resignation and waiting till the Supreme Court gives it verdict on the review of Karki's appointment as the chief of the anti-corruption body, according to Nepali Congress CWC member Guru Raj Ghimire.

Bal Bahadur KC, Bal Krishna Khand, Minendra Rijal, Umakanta Chaudhary, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, Chandra Bhandari, Ajaya Kumar Chaurasiya, Dhanaraj Gurung, Mahendra Yadav, Pushpa Bhusal, Surendra Raj Pandey, Badri Pandey, Ishwari Neupane, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Govinda Bhattarai, Guru Raj Ghimire, Bir Bahadur Balayar, Dila Sangraula, Sarita Prasain, Bahadur Singh Lama and Laxmi Pariyar spoke at the meeting today, according to a statement issued by the party's central office.

The CWC meeting will resume at the party's central office in Sanepa at 8 am tomorrow.

The Parliament, called for 3 pm tomorrow, is scheduled to begin deliberations on the impeachment motion.

The Nepali Congress, the largest party in the Parliament, is yet to make a concrete decision on the impeachment motion, while the CPN-UML and the CPN MC have already decided to impeach Karki.

The commencement of the impeachment proceedings resulted into the immediate suspension of Karki. The senior most CIAA Commissioner Deep Basnyat has taken the charge as the acting chief of the anti-graft body.
