Nepali Congress to support Karki impeachment: Gurung

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker and Central Working Committee member Dhan Raj Gurung said lawmakers from his party would also vote for the impeachment motion filed against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki.

Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu today, Gurung said the largest political party in the Parliament would support the motion as it was "people's proposal."

"It is our agenda, the agenda of people," he said, "The Nepali Congress will not run away from it."

He also charged that those who expressed views in support of Karki were trying to make the House powerless.

While the House is scheduled to resume discussions on the motion on Friday, the party is yet to make any official decision on it.

Meanwhile, the leader from ruling party also said his party would not let the Constitution get amended so as to let those with naturalised citizenship hold constitutional positions if the government registered such proposal.

Speaking on the occasion, CPN-UML Secretary Bhim Acharya said his party would not support the Constitution amendment proposal if the government proposed it in the way as rumoured currently.

Acharya, however, said the party was yet to make its official view on the proposal as the government did not discuss it with the main opposition party.

Sadbhawana Party Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna, however, said the Madhesi parties would launch protests after a week if the amendment proposal was not registered by then.
