NC Tanahun seeks action against Joshi

Damauli, December 12

Nepali Congress Tanahun District Working Committee has recommended action against NC leader and former minister Govindraj Joshi alleging his hand in the defeat of the party in Tahanun Constituency No 1.

A meeting of the committee held under the chairmanship of NC district President Baikuntha Neupane in the presence of central level leaders, including Ramchandra Paudel and Shankar Bhandari had recommended action against Joshi, accusing him of colluding with the opposition against his own party in the recent elections. Paudel had contested from Tanahun-1 as a parliamentary candidate, but had lost to the left alliance candidate.

Earlier, Joshi had registered his rebel candidacy against his own party’s official candidate Paudel with his cronies Harisharan Pandit and Ramdev Pantha proposing and seconding his candidacy respectively. Joshi’s candidacy was, however, revoked by the Election Commission later citing moral decadence of his character. He is said to have incited his supporters to vote for the left alliance candidate in the wake of his candidacy being cancelled.

According to NC Tanahun Secretary Laxmi Acharya, action has also been recommended against Pandit and Pantha. The party is said to have taken action against Joshi on the basis of complaints that he had clandestinely worked to defeat his own party candidate.

UML’s Krishna Kumar Shrestha, aka, Kishan, had secured 34,492 votes against Paudel’s 27,690 votes to scoop victory from Tanahun-1.
