New govt will implement Sino-Nepal deals, says Dahal

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that the new government would implement agreements struck with China during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to the northern neighbour in March.

During Oli’s visit, Nepal and China sealed a number of deals, including a transit treaty as well agreements to establish trans-Himalayan rail and road links between the two countries.

Receiving Chinese Ambassador Wu Chuntai at his residence in Lazimpat, Dahal said the new government would not only implement the agreements but also sign new ones with China, according to a release issued by his secretariat.

Dahal took ownership of the agreements, saying they were made by the coalition government of which his party was also a member. He went on to say the Nepal-China agreements were in fact an outcome of the agreement struck by the previous governments with China.

The Chinese ambassador, on his part, said the Chinese government, the Communist Party of China and the people of China would extend their full support to the new government and Dahal’s leadership, the release issued by CPN-Maoist Centre read. He said the new government under his leadership would work for the implementation of the new constitution and expedite post-earthquake reconstruction.

CMP discussed

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-MC on Friday discussed common minimum programme that could guide the works of the new government.

According to NC negotiator Bimalendra Nidhi both sides agreed to prepare a draft of the CMP before they finalise it. As per the agreement, the CPN-MC and the NC would lead the government on a rotational basis.

According to Nidhi, both the sides agreed to draft a common programme focusing on implementation of the new constitution, resolution of issues raised by Madhesis and Janajatis, holding elections and development works.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-MC Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal will hold dialogue with the leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front to seek the the latter’s support to the new government. — HNS
