Nirmala murder probe teams nowhere near the mark

Dhangadi, September 23

Different teams deployed to investigate  the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta, 13 of Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur have failed to accomplish anything significant till date.

Nearly two months have passed since the tragic incident. The probe teams, however, have failed to identity and book the guilty.

A probe team of District Police Office Kanchanpur said they had no breakthrough to talk about. Probe team Coordinator DSP Krishnaraj Ojha said that though the investigation was under way they had not achieved anything substantial.

DSP Ojha said investigation had taken a new turn after the DNA report of Dilip Singh Bista, framed and paraded as the main accused in the incident by then Kanchanpur police chief, did not match with the DNA profile of Nirmala Panta.

Kanchanpur SP Kuber Kathayat asked people not to understand the teams deployed in Kanchanpur as probe teams. “A team from District Police Office Kanchanpur is investigating the incident and other teams are here just to assist the probe team,” SP Kathayat said.

Meanwhile, Nepal Women’s Union-aligned with Nepali Congress Kailali staged a demonstration in Dhangadi demanding that the guilty be arrested. Locals, traders and other people had participated in the rally and shouted slogans against the government.

NWU has submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through Kailali District Administration Office. The memorandum comprises a charter of demands, including arrest of the guilty and control of increasing violence against women and girls across the country.

NWU central member Sushila Mishra said that they would continue pressing the government until the guilty were booked.
