NRA tells govt to facilitate timber supply for reconstruction

KATHMANDU: The National Reconstruction Authority Chief Executive Officer Govinda Raj Pokharel has directed the government authorities to distribute timber at a subsidised price for the construction of houses in earthquake-affected districts.

Amidst scores of complaints that the scarcity of timber has halted the rebuilding process, Pokharel on Thursday summoned Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation Prakash Mathema, Director General of Department of Forests Krishna Prasad Acharya and General Manager of Timber Corporation of Nepal Raju Laudari for a meeting.

During the meeting, Pokharel had directed the officials to expedite  timber distribution and facilitate its transport to the district headquarters of 14 mostly affected districts.

The officials, in response, promised to execute the directive as soon as possible.
