Oli tells CPN-UML cadres to promote harmony

Kathmandu, September 2

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today directed all party cadres to foil attempts to destroy or damage party offices and disrupt ethnic and regional harmony in the name of dissatisfaction over the draft statute.

Addressing a gathering of the party’s different fronts and organisation at UML headquarters in Dhumbarahi, Oli asked all party colleagues to organise peace and goodwill rallies to send a positive message of social harmony across the country.

His directive comes at a time when reports are widespread that UML offices and houses of party leaders in various Tarai districts are being vandalised by hooligans, allegedly supporters of parties agitating against the demarcation of federal states.

“I request all people to be aware of the ulterior motives of those who are trying to foil the conducive environment for promulgating an early constitution in Nepal,” he added. “I also request all party leaders and cadres to foil any attempt of hooligans to destroy or damage UML offices or other party properties.”

Former prime minister and senior party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal also urged all the party ranks and file to keep record of those who were involved in hooliganism and vandalism of UML offices and its leaders’ houses.
