One-horned rhino found dead in Nawalparasi

KAWASATI: An adult one-horned rhino was found dead at Gauri, in Gaindakot-7 of Nawalparsi district on Monday.

The Kawasoti Sector Forest Office Chief Krishna Devkota said the endangered species might have been electrocuted as some poacher might have tried to kill it with the current.

The place where the animal was found is not fenced.

He further said the District Forests Office was investigating into the case as the rhino had died outside the Chitwan National park.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Forest Officer Ishwor Wagle has been appointed to investigate into the case.

Today itself, the horn and the hooves of the animal have been extracted in the presence of representatives from the Chitwan National Park, the Nepal Army, the Nepal Police and the District Forests Office.

A special team comprising veterinary doctors had also reached the site.

Meanwhile, the DFO has detained a person for further investigation on suspicion of his alleged involvement in the incident.
