One killed, 20 injured in Saptari bus-truck collision

RAJBIRAJ: A person died while 20 others sustained injuries in a collision between a passenger bus and a truck along the East-West highway at Rupani of Saptari district this morning.

The deceased has been identified as the bus driver Namoraj Neupane, 40, of Jagatdev in Syangja, living in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City in Rupandehi district, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Teelak Bharati.

According to police, the passenger bus (Lu 1 Kha 8214) en route to Bhairahawa from Kakarbhitta collided head-on with the truck (Na 8 Kha 5903), injuring the 21.

Critically injured Neupane was taken to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital at Rajbiraj where he breathed his last during the course of treatment.

Meanwhile, other injured have are undergoing treatment at Unique Hospital, Rayapur, police said.

After the information of the accident was received, police teams from Area Police Office, Rupani, District Police Office, Saptari and Area Police Office, Kalyanpur were immediately dispatched to the incident site for the rescue operation.

Police have impounded the truck while the truck driver has been remanded in custody for further investigation, according to District Police Office Saptari.
