Over two million people leave Valley for Dashain

KATHMANDU: More than two million people have left Kathmandu Valley for various destinations to celebrate Dashain festival.

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division stated that 2.2 million people left Kathmandu via the land route alone within a period of four days up until Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police at the Division, Basanta Panta, said that although passengers travelling to faraway destinations have left, those from the districts around Kathmandu Valley such as Sindhupalchok, Kavre, Nuwakot, Dhading, among others, would be leaving on Wednesday and Thursday too before Vijaya Dashami which falls on Friday.

Vijaya Dashami is the last day of the 10-day Bada Dashain festival.

SSP Panta estimates that some 2.4 million people would have exited Kathmandu during Dashain.

Movement of people and traffic on the roads have reduced in Kathmandu with so many people leaving the Valley.
