Panchthar literate

PHIDIM: All 37 VDCs and Phidim Municipality have been declared literate in Panchthar. After District Education Office made 14,323, illiterate people literate, illiteracy has been eradicated in the district. Resource centres under DEO have declared all the VDCs and Phidim Municipality literate. “A preparation to declare the district literate is on in the presence of President Ram Baran Yadav within a month,” according to DEO Gyanmani Nepal.

Caught with bribe

NEPALGUNJ: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday caught non-gazetted first class officer Idrish Ali Behana from District Administration Office (DAO) Banke with Rs one lakh bribe. SP Basant Kuwar from CIAA Contact Office, Kohalpur, said the CIAA team had arrested Idrish immediately after he received Rs one lakh in bribe at the office. CIAA Kohalpur Contact Office Chief SP Kuwar informed that DAO staff Idrish had accepted Rs one lakh in bribe to settle a case registered at the DAO. The arrested is in CIAA custody.

Accused in custody

DAMAULI: District Court Tanahun remanded murder-accused Arjun Bahadur Sarki of Barbhanjyang VDC to custody on Monday. A single bench of district judge Balbhadra Bastola gave the order. According to police, Suraj Kaji Shrestha, 33, of Pokhara had died on the spot when his motorbike was hit by the bus driven by Sarki at Talghare on May 22. Sarki, who had been on the run, was arrested, from Satiswara after 13 days.

House gutted

KHOTANG: A house turned into ashes when it caught fire due to electric short circuit in Diktel of Khotang on Monday morning. The house belonging to Dil Bahadur Khatri of Diktel, was destroyed causing loss of property worth around Rs 150,000. The fire was brought under control with the joint efforts of locals, security personnel and a fire engine. Khatri’s seven-member family has been displaced and is sheltering in their relative’s house.
