Panchthar woman, injured and held captive by hubby, rescued

PHIDIM: A woman, injured and thereafter held captive by her husband four days ago, has finally been freed on Sunday.

Shanti Maya Angdemba, from Nawamidanda-5 of Panchthar, was rescued by her kin four days after her husband captivated her. The 42-year-old had been locked inside the room since August 26 by her 53-year-old husband Moti Bahadur.

“The intoxicated husband told me that I had no right to stay in his home and asked me to get out,” the victim undergoing treatment at the Panchthar Hospital recounted the horror she went through, “He chained up my hands and limbs and beat me.”

She reported that she had fallen unconscious, adding, “When I gained consciousness, I realised that I had been tied, piercing my ears with a thread tying it by a beam of the home.” According to her, she was forced to defecate in the captivated place after nobody responded to her grievances for support.

According to Police Inspector, Rabiraj Thapaliya of the District Police Office, Panchthar, the victim’s sister Madan Kumari finally got the notice of her ill condition and reported the case to the police. Thapaliya said that due to the tortures, both of Shanti Maya’s limbs have been broken while her body carries a number of wounds and scars.

Following the uncovering of incident, police have taken the alleged torturer into the custody and further investigations have been initiated.
