Permit mandatory for Nepali vehicles to enter India

BIRGUNJ: Indian customs officials said Nepali vehicles now mandatorily require permits to enter India through Birgunj-Raxaul and other adjacent entry points, citing security concerns.

As per the new rule, the drivers would be required to obtain a one-day pass to enter India. They would be allowed to travel up to three kilometers while certain entry points would be assigned for them.

The new rule would come into effect from tomorrow.

Anyone wishing to stay longer can obtain permits from the Consulate General from Birgunj or Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

Parsa Chief District Officer, Keshav Raj Ghimire, said he was aware of the new rule imposed by the Indian Customs Office.

Meanwhile, security personnel of both the nations have intensified checking along the border region citing the security sensitivity in the area, said CDO Ghimire.
