PM assures LBRC team of receiving report at convenient time

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday assured the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission that he would receive the LBRC report at a convenient time.

A team led by LBRC Chief Balananda Paudel had reached the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar this morning asking the PM to give the Commission a time to submit its report.

In response, the Prime Minister said he would receive the report at an appropriate time, according to Paudel.

Earlier, it was reported that the PM declined to give the Commission time citing his engagements in political parleys.

Meanwhile, PM Dahal told the Commission that the government was preparing to hold local polls at the earliest.

Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey was also present during the meeting.

Frustrated with the government’s repeated refusal to accept its report, the Commission on Monday jad sent a formal letter to the PM, seeking time to submit it.

The constitutional body is mandated to determine the number and boundaries of local bodies, informed the PM. He said the LBRC had determined the number, boundaries, centres, names and wards of local bodies and completed the report.

The LBRC said it had proposed to create around 720 local bodies.
