PM's visit to normalise ties with India: UML General Secretary Pokhrel

ILAM: General Secretary of the CPN-UML, Ishwor Pokhrel said Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit was aimed at normalising the strained ties with India.

Addressing a programme organised by the party's sister wing-People's Cultural Federation - on its 28th anniversary here on Saturday, General Secretary Pokhrel said there was no point in becoming offended over the promulgation of constitution in Nepal, for it has best served Nepalis' interest.

The UML General Secretary argued that PM's India visit was for normalisation of the relations. There were no demands, no big agenda. So, it was useless to doubt over his visit, he added.

The PM would not sign any agreement that belittle Nepal, he said, adding that PM would talk straight to his Indian counterpart on any issues during his stay there.

He further argued that it was because of the firm stand of the UML, the country got the new constitution.

Moreover, the General Secretary said the country was facing the challenges of effective implementation of the new constitution, so unity among all was essential. Time has come for the economic revolution now, he added.

He also released a book 'Sanskriti' (Culture) published by the Federation, and honoured artists and writers contributing to Nepali folk culture.
