Police official fatally shot at in Saptari, Jayakrishna Goit's armed outfit owns up responsibility

RAJBIRAJ: A police official was fatally shot at by an armed group at Jhauraha Chok of Nargho VDC of Saptari district on Monday evening.

Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha, an underground armed outfit, led by Jayakrishna Goit has taken up the responsibility of the attack.

Two motorcycle-borne assailants had opened fire at ASI Ramesh Subba, the in-charge of Jhutaki police post, in the neighbouring village at around 6:30 pm. The 45-year-old was a permanent resident of Bhadrapur Municipality in Jhapa district.

The assailants managed to flee the site immediately after the attack.

Critically injured in the incident, the police official was rushed to the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj for treatment where he breathed his last, according to the District Police Office.

Subba had sustained bullet injuries on different body parts including his chest and one of his thighs.

Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the chief of Saptari District Police Office, informed that the security personnel are looking for the assailants.

Meanwhile, Goit called up local mediapersons in the district to own the responsibility of the fatal attack.

The underground leader, who is believed to be hiding in India, claimed that his cadres carried out the attack to defeat the State, which relies on the power of guns, using guns.

Unidentified group opens fire at police official in Saptari

KATHMANDU: A police official was seriously injured after an unidentified group opened fired at him in Saptari district on Monday evening. *

The injured official has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramesh Subba, the in-charge of Jhutki p0lice post.

He reportedly has sustained bullet injuries on his chest and abdomen, according to preliminary information.
