Poll fever grips Morang

Biratnagar, June 21

With the second phase of civic polls slated for June 28 drawing close, election fever has gripped Morang.

After filing nominations, party and independent candidates are carrying out door-to-door campaigns and also visiting the fields to win the hearts and minds of farmers.

According to Pratap Tamang of Sunbarsi Municipality, candidates from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre have reached voters’ doorsteps with their plans. Election related activity has picked momentum in Ratuwamai Municipality.

Election fever has now gripped all the 17 local levels, including Morang’s Kerabari, Belbari and Pathari Sanischare.

CPN-Maoist Centre Morang Coordinator Gopi Achhami said that his party had launched the door-to-door campaign as a final run-up to the election day. Achhami said that the party had launched a joint campaign after his party forged an electoral alliance with Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal at Katahari, Ratuwamai and Dhanpal rural municipalities and Biratnagar Metropolis.

Nepali Congress has spread its campaign across the district. NC Morang President Dig Bahadur Limbu said that his party had been engaged in campaigning to win people’s votes.

CPN-UML too has intensified its campaign. Morang District Secretary Rishikesh Pokhrel said that poll campaigning was launched at all levels to win votes at any cost.
