President Bhandari observes Dubai water canal

DUBAI: President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who is on the official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), observed the Dubai water canal here on Wednesday.

Upon her arrival at the Dubai Canal Marine, the site of the water canal, the President was received by the UAE protocol officers. The water canal is a man-made infrastructure.

The canal was opened for sea transport in 2013 but was inaugurated on November 9, 2016. The canal passes by the Dubai city centre, four hotels, 450 restaurants and high level housing. There are also a cycling lane and footpath along the canal.

The width of the canal ranges from 80 to 120 metres with the depth of six metres. It is built on an eight-metre high bridge occupying an area of approximately 80,000 square metres. Private ships and steamers ply the canal.

Accompanying the President on the occasion were the Minister for Supplies Jayant Chand, UAE's ambassador for Nepal, Saeed Hamdan al-Naqbi, Nepal's Charge d' Affaires to UAE, Netra Bahadur Tandon, President's daughter Nisha Kusum Bhandari and other members on the President's entourage.
