JANAKPUR: A teacher was shot while on the way to school in Laxmipur Rural Municipality of Dhanusha district on Sunday morning.

The injured has been identified as Narendra Kumar Sharma (50), principal at a local Saha Sarvodaya Secondary School in Sinurjoda of Dhanusha district.

According to eyewitness, two people riding a motorcycle had shot Sharma who was riding pillion on a bike at around 7:00 am today.

Sharma has injuries on his left cheek. The blood flown from the gunshot injury passed through oesophagus (food-pipe) making the treatment more complicated, said doctors at the Janakpur Zonal Hospital.

Citing the complications, Sharma has been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.

DSP Manoj Kumar Yadav, the chief investigation officer said, “Ananda Kumar Mandal, a temporary teacher, was riding the bike on which Sharma was the pillion rider. Mandal left Sharma at the incident site and ran towards the village to seek help instead of taking the injured to a hospital.”

“Mandal does not have any injuries despite the gunshot passing by him. This has intensified the speculation,” added Yadav.

Sharma had lost his right hand long ago. He used to ride bicycle to go to school.

Police have suspected that monetary reasons as the cause of the incident.

Further investigation is underway.
