Private school being operated from health post building in Rajbiraj

Rajbiraj, October 9

While many health facilities are facing a hard time providing health services due to lack of building and other infrastructure in the country, the building of Shivthan Health Post in

Rajbiraj Municipality is being used by a private school for the last decade.

According to second class non-gazetted officer Ram Prasad Das at the health post, Srijana Boarding School has been using the three-room building on rent to run classes for the past 10 years.

In-charge Rudra Narayan Jha at the health post said the then health facility operation and management committee had taken the decision to rent

the building to the private school before he and other staffers were transferred to the health facility.

The school pays Rs 1,000 per month as rent to the health post.

“The school has been running classes for a long time. Since school buildings were rented in line with the committee’s decision, we showed no concern,” he added.

The health post is running from its own five-room building.

Locals have expressed serious concern about renting the building of the health post to a private school.

Local Parsuram Yadav said it was misuse of government property.

“The building has been rented to the school at  a nominal price. It has to be used by the health post itself,” he added.

District Public Health Office Saptari Officer Niranjan Prasad Yadav said it was illegal to give a government building to a private school on rent. He said his office had directed the health post to get the school to vacate the building soon.
