Rain destroys paddy in Kailali

Dhangadi, September 25

Farmers have incurred heavy loss due to rains at the time of harvesting paddy in Kailali.

Harvesting of paddy has started at different places in Kailali. But, the loss due to rains has peasants worried.

Rajaram Rana, a farmer  of Dhangadi Sub-metropolitan City said farmers could not harvest ripe paddy.

“The paddy crop had started to decay in the field itself. If it does not stop raining within a short time, we shall have to bear huge loss,” he added. Paddy crops have become ripe in Kailali, a district favourable for paddy production. However, farmers have not been able to harvest due to monsoon rains.

Dhangadi sub-metropolis Ward No 10 Chair Rajendar Rana said, “Ninety-five per cent of the people were farmers in the district and most had planted the paddy species — Chaini, which  ripened early, but harvesting was yet to be completed.”

He added that rains posed obstruction to harvesting and the ripe paddy crop had begun to decay in the fields.
