RPP Chairman Thapa loses in Makawanpur-1

Left alliance candidate from CPN-UML Krishna Prasad Dahal defeated Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairperson Kamal Thapa in parliamentary election from Makawanpur Constituency No 1.

It is the third time Dahal defeated his rival Thapa in elections. Earlier, he had defeated Thapa in general election of 1991 and 1999 but Thapa had defeated Dahal in the mid-term election of 1994. Dahal won the election garnering 40,631 ballots while his closest rival Thapa obtained 34,658 ballots.

In Constituency No 2 of the district, UML candidate Birodh Khatiwada won the election for the fourth time. Khatiwada defeated NC central member Mahalaxmi Updhyay for the third time. He had defeated Upadhyay in 1990 general election and 1994 mid-term election as well.

Left alliance candidate Khatiwada defeated NC’s Upadhyay by 12,068 votes. He garnered 44,744 votes while Upadhyay garnered 32,658 votes.

Of the four constituencies of provincial assembly, left alliance candidates have won three seats while NC has won only one seat in the district.
