Rasuwa accident death toll reaches 36

Death toll from Tuesday’s tragic bus accident in Rasuwa has reached 36 after one more person succumbed to injuries in the course of treatment.

However, police have been able to establish the identity of only 30 persons killed in the accident.

The accident had occurred when a bus heading for Rasuwa’s Chilime from Kathmandu veered off the road in Ramche-3, Grang, along the Pasang Lhamu highway on Tuesday. Over 51 persons were injured in the accident. They are receiving treatment at various health facilities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and the capital.

According to Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal of Rasuwa, the bodies, whose identities the police have been able to establish, have been handed over to their kin.

According to Kul Bahadur Khadgi, chairperson of the Pasang Lhamu Bus Operators Committee, they have provided Rs 25,000 each to the families of the deceased as funeral expense.

DSP Awadesh Bista of Rasuwa said the accident occurred due to overload and sorry condition of the road . The ill-fated bus was carrying over 70 persons when it met with the accident.
