Road obstruction triggers shortage of commodities in Rukum

RUKUM: Folks of rural areas in Rukum district have been facing shortage of daily essential commodities from the past one month due to obstructions along the rural roads after incessant monsoon downpours-triggered landslides.

Takasera, Kankri, Mahat, Morawanga and Hukam among other remote place of the district are having problem as the roads leading to the remote areas from the district headquarters Khalanga have been blocked by landslides at multiple locations.

Landslides obstructed the supply of commodities, according to businessman Govardhan Budha of Kankri in the district.

The locals are facing shortage of basic commodities as salt, oil, spices, rice grains and pulses, shared Ramesh Budha, a local of Bhume Rural Municipality-5 in the district.

The shops have run out of stock hiking the prices in some places. Price of one litre oil has climbed to Rs 23o from Rs 150.

The villagers have also been unable to travel due to the obstruction of transportation along the landslide-affected roads.They have been complaining that the concerned authorities have turned down their pleas for help.

District Coordination Committee has said it is impossible to resume transportation along the roads as monsoon-triggered landslides are continuing. Local Development Officer Narendra Kumar Rana said that maintenance works have been carried out at some places to resume transportation.
