Sah wants govt to roll back its decision to declare Rautahat riot-hit zone

RAUTAHAT: UCPN-Maoist lawmaker and politburo member Prabhu Sah demanded the government scrap its decision to declare Rautahat a riot-hit zone at the earliest.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the UCPN-M Rautahat Chapter in Gaur on Sunday, he said that the Madhesi people took to the street merely to ensure their rights in the new constitution.

Stating that locals of Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat, have been facing a hard time after the government declared the area the   riot-hit zone to suppress the ongoing agitation.

He said that the decision should be rolled back as soon as possible.

Leader Sah said that the Madhesi people would not accept the new constitution promulgated only for the vested interests of some leaders of the major political parties.

He also demanded the government to declare Raj Kishor Thakur, who was killed in a police firing during an agitation, a martyr and provide proper compensation to the family of Thakur.

Sah had won the second Constituent Assembly elections from Rautahat constituency number 3.

Earlier on August 14, lawmaker Sah had resigned as a member of the Constituent Assembly's Constituent Drafting Committee expressing reservation over the ongoing work of revision of the draft constitution.
